Obtaining a License

Playing by the Rules

SOPROQ is qualified to grant general licenses for the reproduction rights of its members' sound recordings. The organization can also grant licenses to broadcast music videos.

General copyright licences for sound recordings generally fall into one of the following license categories:

Radio Licenses

These licenses are granted primarily for commercial and non-commercial radio, accompanying music for websites, pay audio services, and Internet-bases music services.
Background Music Licenses

These licenses are granted primarily for background music used in a public place (restaurant, bar, store, etc.), music used by a jukebox or DJ, karaoke music or customized services (corporate radio).
Television Licenses

These licenses are granted primarily for reproductions used in programming activities or musical accompaniment to a visual production other than a music video.
Customized Licenses

SOPROQ's tariff committee sets tariff scales and makes rulings on the many license requests we receive. Please do not hesitate to contact us about your project: we will provide you with information about the applicable tariffs and help you select the most suitable license for your needs.
