SOPROQ collects and distributes royalties owed to its registered producers in the fairest way possible.

SOPROQ collects and distributes royalties that derive from the equitable remuneration and private copying regimes, as well as royalties from the granting of general licenses. SOPROQ works with two umbrella organizations - the Neighbouring Rights Collective of Canada (NRCC) and the Canadian Private Copyright Collective (CPCC) - to collect royalties generated by the equitable remuneration and private copying regimes.

On September 5, 2001, SOPROQ administered the first North American distribution of royalties from the equitable remuneration regime. This means that SOPROQ members were the first in North America to receive royalties for the broadcasting of their sound recordings on Canadian commercial radio.
